BIO
Calvin Cunninghame began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney with the Nevada County District Attorney’s Office, where he gained rare and valuable perspective and extensive experience prosecuting criminal cases and honing the skills necessary to build compelling arguments in court.
His time as a prosecutor, however, exposed him to the systemic injustices within the criminal justice system, resonating deeply with an early childhood memory of standing up for a classmate who was being bullied. That instinct to protect the vulnerable and fight for justice has guided his career ever since, shaping him into a fiercely dedicated and empathetic defense attorney.
Motivated by a passion to challenge the system from the other side, Calvin transitioned into criminal defense. This pivotal move allowed him to see both sides of the justice system and developed an insider’s understanding of prosecutorial strategy, courtroom dynamics, and case evaluation. This unique experience guided Calvin to dismantle prosecutorial arguments and build compelling defenses.
Today, as a trusted defense consultant and advocate, Calvin applies his insider perspective to deliver strategic, insightful, and fiercely effective defense representation.
As a defense attorney, Calvin has represented clients in cases ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies, guiding them through every stage of litigation, including jury trials. His practice is defined by strategic precision, deep empathy, and an unwavering commitment to protecting his clients’ rights and achieving justice.
Calvin earned his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from the University of California, Santa Barbara. This academic foundation sharpened his critical thinking, persuasive reasoning, and ethical judgment; skills that continue to inform his legal practice. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law, where he also served as a certified law clerk with the District Attorney’s Office, laying the foundation for a career defined by strategy, insight, and a relentless commitment to justice.
Calvin firmly believes that everyone deserves a second chance and that every individual, regardless of the charges they face should be represented with fairness, dignity, and without bias.
Outside the courtroom, Calvin enjoys staying active through various sports, with a particular passion for weightlifting.
