Law Clerk Position – (Roseville)

The law office of Chastaine Jones is accepting the application for “Law Clerk” position to join in Roseville office. The position requires assistance with sensitive and complicated case facts and materials. You must be self-motivated and enjoy being part of a talented team.

We are a boutique law firm handling criminal defense, run by one of Northern California’s top criminal defense attorneys. We welcome an experienced law clerk or highly motivated law student who is passionate about becoming a criminal defense attorney. 

The office uses cutting-edge and innovative business practices and the latest technology to maximize efficiency and profitability. 

Applicants must be comfortable working with all types of criminal defense matters without judgment and with compassion. 

Qualifications

• A passion for helping people
• Tenacious, focused and hardworking
• Attentive to details

• General knowledge of Word, Excel and Adobe
• Knowledge of legal research (Lexis or Westlaw)
• Comfortable with speaking on the phone
• Legal writing experience – motions, briefs etc.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Willing to learn 

• Work well under stress

Job Requirements

• Document management (including scanning and filing documents)
• Reviewing and summarizing documents, evidence and police reports
• Research various legal issues and basic motions and/or declarations 
• Drafting basic motions and/or declarations.
• Communicate with clients and potential clients via phone, email and in person
• Attend staff meetings, including legal strategy meetings, general office meetings and trainings
• Track and log billable and nonbillable time
• File legal documents in various courts
• Assist with trial preparation including organizing files, witnesses and evidence
• Maintain contact with various witnesses  
• Attend trial as necessary

Schedule:

Full Time

• 8-hour daytime shift
• Monday to Friday

Part Time

• 20 to 25 hours a week
